Golf – History Of A Game In Constant Evolution
The true origins of the game now called golf have been hotly debated over the years, as throughout history almost every civilisation has played some form of game with a club and a ball. Various competing ideas have been put forward as to its initial derivation and over the years there have been many different ways to play. Probably the one constant that is universally accepted, is that the original essence of the modern game can trace its origins back to the pastime of “gowf”, as played on the links lands of the East of Scotland long before the 15th Century, which has over time grown into the great game of “golf” as we currently know it.

Boys "AVT" Golf Club Set w460cc Driver Stand Bag & Free Putter; Teen LengthReviewsI purchased the AVT club set for my 11 year old son. He has been playing golf for 6 years. He experienced a growth spurt last year and the junior clubs were to small and the adult clubs were to big. I purchased the set as a Christmas gift and weather has prevented us from going to the range or playing a round. The weather broke last week and the clubs are a good fit for his size. He is 5'2" and the length of the clubs are great, I was leery of him gripping the club down on the grip possibly changing his swing but that has not been an issue. He also appreciates having a full set of clubs like the "big boys", which has improved his confidence. The club heads are heavier than I had anticipated but he will adjust because he's older and stronger. If he continues to grow I anticipate 3 good years of use for the clubs. The stand bag is a great addition to the set. Thanks for providing a club for the older youth who has not yet achieved adult length and strength. Average Rating:![]() |

Orlimar EZ Roll 3 Wheeled CartReviewsamazon asked me to write a review of my new orlimar ez roll wheeled cart. i bought it in early december. since we still have snow on the ground, it's sitting in my living room in the original box. it's become part of my livingroom decor. sure looks good in the box. when it thaws, i will revisit my review and report in earnst.btw, delivery was quick and efficeient. I needed two carts for Florida so we could walk not ride. Works good for the price...not a $200 model but good enough....stows small. The picture on the web page shows a sturdy looking two pipe frame. However the cart I received is a single square aluminum pipe frame. So I was somewhat disappointed when I received the cart. I should have read the description more closely. It fairly accurately describes the design. There is no cup holder. I have not used it yet, so I cannot comment on durability. Assembly was easy and as the name implies, it rolls easily. It's a very well designed product. Rolls smoothly and stable. I can not say about durability as I haven't used it for long. The wheels connected to the chassis with a cam action clamp, which is ingeneous, but it is made of plastic, and I have some misgiving on its durability. It would be better if it comes with a brake. On an uneven ground I have to find a rock or something to block the wheel. Overall it's a very well made Our order came quickly and my husband assembled it without difficulty. However, the clear plastic flap that holds the score card in place was badly scratched. I contacted the owner of the company and he sent a whole new handle assembly to me within the week at no charge. Excellent customer service! I think this push cart is user-friendly with its light, large wheels and handy organizer near the handle. It does take some getting used to out on the course in one respect: my previous cart was a two-wheeler so when I left it, it stayed. With three wheels, one must be careful to leave it crosswise to a slope or it'll role away! My only real caveat is that, as a petite woman, "unfolding" it preparatory to use is a challenge. I've yet to figure out an easy way to bring the front wheel out without tipping the golf bag so far back that the clubs don't start sliding out. Guess my technique will improve with time. All in all, it's going to be a very satisfactory cart. Average Rating:![]() |

Orlimar USA CR Locator 14-way full divider Stand Bag (Red/White/Blue)ReviewsThe Orlimar bag looks cool, but the description said : Full length dividers. When I received the bag I noticed that the top 3 dividers were no separated and definitely not from top to bottom, the same goes for the side and front dividers. Only the 4 center compartments are full length dividers. Maybe I received a lemon one as I noticed that the fabric was not stitched together to created separate dividers. Bag looks cool, is light, colours are beautiful, but I need 14 separate full length dividers. Oh well, sending it back. I've wanted a red, white, and blue golf bag for a long time as well as trying to find a stand bag with a 14 way divider. This bag is perfect and it's my ideal golf bag. The storage space is awesome and it even has a secret pocket, very cool. Along with 2 cooler pockets, also very cool, it has an individual holder for your putter which is awesome. To top it all off the morning I bought the price had dropped $30! Awesome, awesome, awesome. Best quality bag for the price hands down. 14-way divider is great. Plenty of storage. lightweight. And very attractive. Great price. Absolutely love it... I have been looking for this bag forever, 2 of our daughters are in the military and I do like Red White and Blue. Nice and light weight and the stand helps when taking out of the car, it doesn't fall over like the cart bags that I've had. Love the 14 way full dividers for the clubs and the putter well. Just not as many pockets as the cart bag I had, will just have to down size. Average Rating:![]() |

It was around the seaside towns of Aberdeen, St. Andrews and Leith on the outskirts of Edinburgh, with their expanses of rolling sandy grounds, or links, which lie between the sea and the town, that a game resembling today’s golf really took hold and formed the discernable start of an evolutionary process which still continues right up to this day.
Since this time, there have been many changes within the game with the rules changing numerous times over the years (http://www.ruleshistory.com/ ), ever since the earliest surviving written rules created by the Gentlemen Golfers of Leith in March 1744. The balls have also been subject to developments, with the introduction at St Andrews, in 1848, of an inexpensive and more durable rubbery ball to replace the previously expensive and unpredictable feathery balls which would often not last even a one entire game.
Another significant milestone in golfing history was the creation in 1851 of the first purpose built golf course in Prestwick on the links of Monkton parish, followed soon after in 1860 by the first open championship on the same course. Since that time the game has spread right around the world from Europe to America and even through to China and Japan. The courses however still tend to imitate those earliest of Scottish creations, although American courses have leant towards longer fairways and softer greens. Competitions have also seen a massive growth in interest, following recent sponsorship deals and the introduction of televised coverage.
These days everyone seems to want to play. During the summer, courses become heavily used and parks throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK are filled with people knocking a ball about. There are purpose built golf courses all around the country, and there are specialist companies offering short golfing holidays (http://www.superbreak.com/search/golf-breaks.htm ) who are now tapping in to the desire to play on some of the world's finest courses which are to be found in Britain.
Today the game of golf has significantly evolved from the primitive, haphazard and casual game it started out as, with the very earliest players initially having to carve their own clubs and balls from wood. Now modern casting methods mean that clubs can be made much stronger and more affordably making the game open to all who want to play, while research into synthetic and composite materials has lead to top end performance clubs using titanium heads and graphite shafts for those who can afford them. While most designers have sought to improve performance through subtle developments such as materials changes, other ingenious entrepreneurs have tried making clubs which contain a built in gyroscope or created a single reusable shaft and a selection of changeable screw in club heads, in order to out wit the rules.
Changes in ball design, official rules, the introduction of more competitive equipment produced by skilled craftsmen such as forged metal heads for niblick clubs which were prone to breakage, increases in the number of courses, and promotion by the media, have made what was a simple pastime in Scotland into a multimillion pound worldwide phenomenon.
